Punahou Learning Commons

About This Project

Creative Partition Systems (CPS) was contracted by Albert C. Kobayashi, Inc. as a trades partner to perform all drywall scope of work duties to assist with a complete renovation of the Punahou School Academy Learning Commons. As an institution known for its academic excellence, it is only fitting that the students and faculty have a new learning facility that helps to guide and foster that continued growth. Originally constructed in 1963, with two minor upgrades in 1996 and 2008, the design intent to rejuvenate this building into a one-stop shop for learning is nothing less than impressive. Amongst the various spaces, the new learning commons includes multiple work stations, offices, a food design lab, cafe, group study rooms, and a large open seating area.

CPS’ work scope included metal framing, fiberglass batt insulation, gypsum board hanging/taping, EIFS/DEFS, long board metal plank ceilings, interior finished decking, acoustical exterior sound panels, Acoustibuilt System, acoustical baffles, and acoustical ceiling grid and tile.

One aspect of the project that required careful management was material deliveries, due to the constrained construction zone, limited laydown space, and active classes. Maintaining constant communication between our foremen and the general contractor’s superintendent was critical to ensure that deliveries arrived on time and complied with the school’s parameters. During school hours, CPS provided two personnel at all times to safely guide materials in and out of the construction zone.
