Kaiaulu O Kukuia – Lahaina, Maui

About This Project

Kaiaulu O Kukuia – Lahaina, Maui

Creative Partition Systems has been contracted by Maryl Group for the Kaiaulu O Kukuia project, which consists of 25 two-story eight-plexes and two common centers to support the Lahaina kaiaulu. The Hawaiian word “kaiaulu” means community. The project is located at the tail end of Maalaea by-pass highway as you enter Lahaina.

CPS’ scope of work consists of non-load bearing metal framing, plumbing walls, soffits, ceilings, insulation and drywall throughout, and taping finish that consists of a non-typical orange-peel textured wall with a level 4 smooth ceiling.

Less than six weeks into the project, the devastating Lahaina fire incident occurred. Thankfully, this project was spared, but it caused more than an eight-week delay in order for remediation to take place and insurance coverage to be squared away. When the project resumed, momentum was regained and a new work flow was established. The project turnover date has shifted slightly, but remains highly aggressive. CPS has completed three buildings to date. This is currently the most important construction project for the west side Maui community. Upon it’s completion, it will provide much needed housing for many displaced families. The estimated completion date is December 2024.
