Creative Partition Systems (CPS) was awarded a $1,063,951 contract with Albert C. Kobayashi, Inc. to renovate a four-story existing space, nestled within Fort Street Mall in the heart of Honolulu, into a new Hawaii Pacific University Science Hall.
CPS’ scope includes metal framing, fiberglass batt insulation, gypsum board hanging/taping, EIFS, and acoustic ceiling grid and tile.
Due to the project location and heavy pedestrian traffic, accurate communication with both the general contractor and suppliers has been critical to ensure on-time deliveries. The limited space on site required materials to be stored within the building, and scaffolding was erected to stock materials on the upper floors. During excavation at the loading dock, bones were found, which prompted the general contractor to notify the State’s archaeological team to perform an assessment and provide approval to proceed with work. This discovery resulted in a roughly two-month delay. Despite these circumstances, the CPS team will provide HPU with a satisfactory product within budget. This project is anticipated to be completed by August 2024.
